Foundation of the non-governmental human rights organization “Soldiers’ Mothers of St. Petersburg.”

 

1994

January : Presenting

documents on the violation of Human Rights of conscripts in the Russian Army to the European Parliament. Based on this, resolution B3-0062/94 was adopted by the European Parliament on January 20th.

October : Trip to the USA by the invitation of the American government for a teaching program called “Women in Politics.”

November: Trip to USA by the invitation of the League of Women Electors to participate in a training program in Elizabethtown, Kentucky for the month.

1995

Participation in the March of Motherly Compassion and Peace in Chechnya.

Participation in the hearing of the official Russian declaration in front of the UN Human Rights Committee.

Participation in the Assembly of people in Perugia, Italy (50 years UN) and March of Peace to Perugia.

 

1996

Speaking-tour through Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden together with Zainab Gachaeva from the Women’s Union of Northern Caucasus.

 

1997

May: Trip to Strasbourg to present an independent report on human rights violations by the Russian state “On the violation of human rights in the armed forces of the Russian Federation.”

Participation in the European seminar on conscientious objection of military service (Linz, Austria).

Trip to Holland on the invitation of Amnesty International. Meetings with representatives of AI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NGOs and ECCO.

June: Trip to the USA, lecture on “Controlling the Military: The Role of Individual Citizens” at an international conference at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.

Seminar on “Human Rights in the Armed Forces of the Baltic Countries” (Soros Fund).

 

1998

Participation in the preparations of the European congress of peace supporters and conscientious objectors in Osnabrueck, Germany.

 

May: Visit from an international delegation of members of Amnesty International and Pax Christi.

June: Lecture at a conference of Amnesty International chapters from all over Europe on aims of human rights work in the 21st century.

Participation in a seminar on the organization and the possibilities of International Tribunals (Moscow).

December : Fifty years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Conference in Warsaw with participation of human rights organizations and activists from all over the world ; conference in Paris on protecting human rights activists.

 

1999

March : Research trip to Belarus, meetings with the writer Svetlana Aleksyevich, with members of the Belorussian Helsinki Committee and with the Belorussian Association of Women-Lawyers.

April : First ever legal exchange between a Russian soldier kept prisoner in Chechnya and a Chechen prisoner (whose participation in a crime could never be proved) in St. Petersburg took place in the premises of the organization.

Participation in the Hague Appeal for Peace; workshop together with conscientious objectors from Latin America.

Participation at the International School on Human Rights – Warsaw.

Speaking-tour to Brussels and Strasbourg with the Independent presentation on human rights violations in the Russian Army.

Lecture at the International Academy for Grassroots Women’s Groups from Central and Eastern European Countries, (GWIA).

February: Organization of the International Conference “Cooperation between civil society and military - the way to civil society” in St.Petersburg.

March: Invitation to Paris by the Commitee Tchetchenie; speech at the Assemblée Nation

May: Lecture in league of Nations (Paris) by the invitation of Committee of Chechnya.

June: Press-conference dedicated to Manifesto-2000 supporting the culture of the world

August: Monitoring in North-Caucasus : Vladikavkaz - North-Ossetia, Ingushetia (Refugee camps), check-point “Kavkaz 1” (at the border to Chechnya).

may : trip to Dagestan, Mahachkala for the seminar “Culture – Conflict – Woman”, organized by the League of Protecting of Mother and Child.

june : participation in march of solidarity with Checnya in France, organized by the “Rien-sans-elles”.

september : the organization’s got Aahen’s Prize of Peace.

The lawyer of the organization Elena Filonova has got the diploma of S-Petersburg Chamber of Lawyers “The Best defense of the year” for the defense of soldier Alexey Kitaev.

 

2005


june : co-chair of organization Ella Polakova was included in the list of 1000 women of the world, who were submitted for the Nobel Prize.
