“There will come a time, when we start to think of our security, see the infringement on our rights, begin to look for the way out of this situation. And we find it in “Soldiers Mothers of Saint-Petersburg”. The lowers help us. They organized the School by the protection of our rights. I like this name, as we are really like schoolboys and schoolgirls discovering the new world. Our text-book is Russian Constitution. Unfortunately we recall it only when the problem concerns us personally. So we want to know our rights to became free and to able to protect ourselves. And we get it at the school.”

The Human Rights School has been existing in our organization for already 7 years. Each time there are around 150 people attending. These are persons of different ages, generations, men and women, lots of youngsters. They are all united by one striving for knowing laws and their rights and methods of their defense. These are moms and dads of conscripts, their grand moms and
grand dads, their girlfriends and wives, their acquaintenances, relations and friends.

While attending the School people perceive knowledge about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, about the Chapter 2 of the Russian Constitution, about Russian laws. People learn how to use the laws and in this way how to protect their rights. During the lectures we strive for changing attitudes towards a human being, a person’s self-respect, a person’s health, love, family, we help to realize the fact of the a human life’s value.

Being present at the School people learn to take personal responsibility, their decision making process is put into action, their own personal resources of finding a good solution of a problem are sought for.

The classes are carried out by the organization members being volunteered advisers of the School on legal and judicial matters and medical aspects of the fitness for the military service. In addition, people receive teaching leaflets named “ Defense of conscripts’ and drafted military servicemen’s rights”.

Therefore, as a result of individual people’s work on their rights’ defense the Human Rights culture is emerging thanks to the mutual aid. A family reaching to defend their son’s right on life, health, his human dignity during the military draft campaign or during the military service and achieving it rather legally than bribing, people transform and become Citizens. And they have been coming to the organization “ Soldiers’ Mothers’ of St –Petersburg”, as always, being already the winners and testifying their success.
